Causes of failure
A previously done ACL reconstruction may fail.In India ,ACL reconstruction is a relatively new procedure.There are chances that it can go wrong. 1) The graft may be malpositioned in the first place or some technical error 2)It might have failed due to a second injury 3)Failure of graft incorpration
Indications for surgery
The main indication for a revision ACL reconstruction is a desire to remain active The other indication is a lack of full range of movements. 3) Symptoms of recurrent instability, pain,effusion.
Graft choice
A different source of graft is chosen, either allograft or an autogaft.
Technique
It can be done at a single sitting or in two stages. The first operation may restore movemtnts and address bony defects. A cartilage surgery procedure may be required
Reults
The results are not as good as a primary ACL reconstruction.
